This is a Spanish translation to a new telenovela, Baktún, in which all the characters speak only Maya.
With Latinos across the country arguing over the new Lifetime telenovela, Devious Maids, it seems we’ve overlooked the premiere…
Omg yes, I love telenovelas like OMG I will watch the hell out of it.
Now, truth be told I know that people say a lot of thing of Telenovelas but I love their potential to show a Latin American reality. A manipulated, sugar coated, sometimes terribly acted reality but it’s often the only television program that speak of our reality of problems and situations people face. And I think that’s why people like it. That’s why I like them, non-ironically.
And this shows very well that potential of telenovelas of speaking of our reality of having characters and arc that deal with everyday an with life and social situations, like migration, love. I applaud this initiative and hope it would be imitate in other countries that like mine have a bunch of vibrant languages. Also it would hopefully help people to have a new vision of those languages an people.
